ABY 1A: Unit 7 Conversation 2

Dear readers, this is my teaching material for my English class at At-Taqwa Quran Memorization School of Sukoharjo. This material is taken from Al-Arabiya Baina Yadaik Book 1A, Unit 7, Conversation 2.

In the lesson, I start by reading the Arabic conversation aloud. Then, I translate it word by word from Arabic into English and provide the students with the full English translation. After that, I ask them to look at the text, listen to me read it again, and repeat the conversation. Finally, I give them a set of comprehension questions to check their understanding.

CONVERSATION (ABY 1A Unit 7 Conversation 2)

نَدَى: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ.

نَدَى: السَّلَامُ (The peace) | عَلَيْكُمْ (upon you) | . (period)

Nada: Peace be upon you.

إِلْهَام: وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ.

إِلْهَام: وَ (And) | عَلَيْكُمُ (upon you) | السَّلَامُ (the peace) | . (period)

Ilham: And peace be upon you too.

نَدَى: اِسْمِي نَدَى. أَنَا سُورِيَّةٌ.

نَدَى: اِسْمِي (My name) | نَدَى (Nada) | . (period) | أَنَا (I) | سُورِيَّةٌ (Syrian) | . (period)

Nada: My name is Nada. I am Syrian.

Amiyah Arabic:

نَدى: أَنا نَدى، أَنا مِن سُورِيَا.

إِلْهَام: اِسْمِي إِلْهَام. أَنَا سَعُودِيَّةٌ.

إِلْهَام: اِسْمِي (My name) | إِلْهَام (Ilham) | . (period) | أَنَا (I) | سَعُودِيَّةٌ (Saudi Arabian) | . (period)

Ilham: My name is Ilham. I am Saudi Arabian.

Amiyah Arabic:

إِلهام: وَأَنا إِلهام، أَنا سَعودِيَّة.

نَدَى: أَنَا طَالِبَةٌ فِي جَامِعَةِ دِمَشْقَ.

Nada: I am a student in the University of Damascus.

Amiyah Arabic:

نَدى: أَنا أَدرُس بِجامِعَة دِمشْق.

إِلْهَام: أَنَا طَالِبَةٌ فِي جَامِعَةِ أُمِّ الْقُرَى.

إِلْهَام: أَنَا (I) | طَالِبَةٌ (a student) | فِي (in) | جَامِعَةِ (the university of) | أُمِّ (mother of) | الْقُرَى (the towns/villages) | . (period)

Ilham: I am a student in Umm Al-Qura University.

Amiyah Arabic:

إِلهام: وَأَنا أَدرُس بِجامِعَة أُمّ القُرى.

نَدَى: فِي أَيِّ كُلِّيَّةٍ تَدْرُسِينَ؟

Amiyah Arabic:

نَدى: بِأَيّ كُلِّيَّة تَدرُسِين؟

Ilham: I study in the Faculty of Education.

Amiyah Arabic:

إِلهام: أَدرُس بِكُلِّيَّة التَّربِيَة.

نَدَى: وَفِي أَيِّ كُلِّيَّةٍ تَدْرُسِينَ أَنْتِ؟

نَدَى: وَ (And) | فِي (in) | أَيِّ (which) | كُلِّيَّةٍ (faculty) | تَدْرُسِينَ (do you study?) | أَنْتِ (you - feminine) | ؟ (question mark)

Nada: And in which faculty do you study?

Amiyah Arabic:

نَدى: وَإِنْتِي بِأَيّ كُلِّيَّة؟

إِلْهَام: أَدْرُسُ (I study) | فِي (in) | كُلِّيَّةِ (the faculty of) | الطِّبِّ (medicine) | . (period)

Ilham: I study in the Faculty of Medicine.

Amiyah Arabic:

إِلهام: أَنا أَدرُس بِكُلِّيَّة الطِّبّ.

إِلْهَام: سَأَكُونُ مُدَرِّسَةً، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.

إِلْهَام: سَأَكُونُ (I will be) | مُدَرِّسَةً (a teacher - feminine) | ، (comma) | إِنْ (if) | شَاءَ (wills) | اللَّهُ (Allah) | . (period)

Ilham: I will be a teacher, if Allah wills.

Amiyah Arabic:

إِلهام: إِن شاءَ الله بَصِير مُدَرِّسَة.

نَدَى: وَسَأَكُونُ طَبِيبَةً، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.

نَدَى: وَ (And) | سَأَكُونُ (I will be) | طَبِيبَةً (a doctor - feminine) | ، (comma) | إِنْ (if) | شَاءَ (wills) | اللَّهُ (Allah) | . (period)

Nada: And I will be a doctor, if Allah wills.

Amiyah Arabic:

نَدى: وَإِن شاءَ الله أَنا بَصِير دُكتُورَة.
