Canadian Goose with Arrow for 7 Months Finally Rescued

Squamish, BC - A seven-month-long effort to rescue a Canadian goose with an arrow sticking out of him has finally come to a successful conclusion, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of photographer Tim Cyr and veterinarian Dr. Adrian Walton.

"I saw this goose with an arrow sticking in him," recounted Cyr. "We've been following him for about seven months and attempted to catch him three or four times, but we had no success. He was chased so many times, and it was hard catching him. But eventually, we caught him and took him to the animal hospital."

Dr. Walton, who works at a veterinary clinic in Maple Ridge, provided crucial medical assistance for the goose. "He's a Canadian goose; there's no such thing as an ordinary Canadian goose," said Walton. The veterinarian added, "We took the opportunity to sedate him and x-ray him. By twisting and pulling, we were able to remove the arrow, which turned out to be a training arrow. The funniest thing was that after the procedure, he looked around as if to say, 'Hey, look, I just had a makeover!'"

After receiving medical treatment, the goose was transported to Mars Wildlife Rescue Centre on Vancouver Island. Tim Cyr shared the next steps for the goose's recovery, "He was then ferried to Mars Wildlife on Vancouver Island, where he will be rehabilitated and eventually released."

Cyr further expressed his relief, "We're going to bring him back to Furry Creek and try to find his flock so we can release him. I'm very relieved. He's been a part of my day for seven months, and now I have to find something else to do."

The story highlights the dedication of animal rescuers and the importance of community support in saving wildlife. Efforts like these show that even the most challenging rescues can have positive outcomes with persistence and care.
