If you have an iPhone, you might want to hear this.
Apple, the company that makes iPhones, is paying $95 million to settle a lawsuit.
Why?
Because people accused Apple's virtual assistant, Siri, of listening to private conversations.
Many people have noticed that after talking about something near their iPhone, they see ads for it.
It turns out this might be true!
From September 2014 to the end of last year, Siri was recording conversations and sharing them with advertisers.
Apple decided to settle the lawsuit by paying $95 million.
Even though this sounds like a lot, it’s actually a tiny amount for Apple.
The company has made $750 billion since 2014!
By settling, Apple doesn't have to admit they did anything wrong, and they avoid a public trial.
This way, they also dodge bigger charges and fines.
But this situation goes against Apple’s promise to protect people's privacy.
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, has always said that consumer privacy is very important.
However, Apple isn’t the only one in trouble.
Google is also being accused of letting its voice assistant listen in on conversations.
With more and more AI technology being used in our lives, people are worried that this might just be the beginning of privacy issues. CBS
